Edmonton Literacy Coalition Public Awareness Campaign Launch
Wednesday, 8 August 2012 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM
Edmonton, AB
The Edmonton Literacy Coalition invites you to attend the launch of our campaign to raise awareness of low literacy levels. 40 percent of adult Albertans have literacy skills below level three, which is the minimum literacy level required to fully participate in our information oriented society.
The Edmonton Literacy Coalition is a new group comprising five organizations each hard at work helping people overcome literacy challenges, who have now come together to raise awareness and inspire action on this critical issue. Coalition members are:
- Centre for Family Literacy
- Edmonton Community Adult Literacy Association
- Learning Centre Literacy Association
- NorQuest College
- Project Adult Literacy Society
The campaign launch event will feature welcome remarks from Coalition leaders, a brief keynote from Mayor Stephen Mandel and personal stories from Edmontonians who have overcome literacy challenges and the impact that has made on their lives.
The Coalition will unveil the series of ads that will be running in Edmonton as a part of this campaign. The ads are designed to help the 60% of adult Albertans who have adequate literacy skills to experience the perspective of people with literacy challenges and ultimately inspire people at all literacy levels to come together to solve this issue.
